I'm down to 12 working days until I retire. I've been at this particular job for 21 years, and of course a few jobs before that. I wonder how it will feel not to have "work" as the baseline for my scheduling... because even when your children are your life (like that ever stops), and their care, school, activities and sports are filling your time, there is always "work" because it makes everything else possible. Now, there are no children's activities, and no work. How totally joyful can that total freedom be?? I can't wait to find out.

Cloudy Saturday

When's the last time you just took a ride? I think taking a drive just for entertainment was on its way out in the 70s when gas went from 50c to 75c. Then the fake shortage hit... and again, and again.. Anyhow, today I went out for a ride - just drove down some residential streets I hadn't been on before and followed one of those roads named after two towns to see if it really went to the second one. It didn't. It stopped at a relatively new (5 years?) road that was built strictly to serve a mall and commerce center. Maybe I missed something but I'm more inclined to believe that the road is gone, and the mall is there.

I'm Outta Here

I only have to drive down the freeway to work 21 more times. That's if I choose to work all of the days I'm scheduled before my retirement date. Please don't try this calculation at home if you are under 60.

And so it begins

Everyone thinks they have a novel in them at some point in their lives. I always found the opening line so freaking intimidating I never started. So now I'm almost 65 and I really don't care if I have a special talent for writing or not. Being old really does set you free. Anyhow.. this is what this silly blog will be about.. the absolute joys and total freedom of getting older.

You kids should check it out...
